The HFL Story

HFL a world leader in the design and manufacture of Marine and Vehicle Generators, Marine Airconditioning, and DC Generators/Airconditioning. Specialists in this field for some 24 years, HFL has continuously focused on the more problematic issues on boats, such as noise and space constraints, and have proven to be one of the most innovative of Marine Generator manufacturers, resolving on-board problems, and redefining expectations.

It is in this way that HFL has become one of the leading names in the marine industry, supplying and servicing some of the marine industry's biggest names, and always with the same goal in mind: to continually listen to boatbuilders and boat owners alike, and strive to innovate, design and manufacture smaller, quieter and lighter products, but never with compromise on efficiency, reliability or output.

It was HFL that introduced the first high speed diesel marine generator in 1976, at a time when the rest of the marine industry was of the opinion that only 1500rpm machines were a feasible on board power supply. 3000rpm machines were considered too noisy and unreliable to have on board a boat and were therefore written off by the marine industry despite their considerable weight and space savings. Needless to say when we released our first high speed alternative it was greeted with some scepticism and we had our work cut out persuading the rest of the industry. Thanks to HFL's innovation, however, utilising cutting edge diesel engine technology, anti-vibration mounts and special sound cocoons the technology proved itself, and the majority of diesel generators sold today below 30KVA are 3000rpm, rather than 1500rpm.

HFL's domination of generator development is evidenced by the now firmly established Marriner range of synchronous generators now being produced with watercooled alternators. Unlike the asynchronous machines with watercooled alternators, the improvement has not been made at the expense of the generators electrical performance. The incredible take up with the Marriner generators has been beyond our greatest expectations, with HFL now firmly established as market leader.

HFL's other main product is of course airconditioning and considerable success has been had in this area in terms of being able to supply complete packages to customers, matching the correct components and giving customers a full service from design stages right through to a completed boat.
